
Getting Your Sidel IR Heaters Back in Sync
Let’s be honest: replacing IR lamps in a PET blow molding line is usually a headache. You’re dealing with tiny margins for error and power requirements that have to be spot on, or you’re looking at a lot of wasted plastic. We wanted to fix that. We built our IR heating elements to be simple, drop-in replacements for Sidel machines—whether you’re still running the old SBO models or you’ve moved up to the Matrix series. No more “making it fit” The SBO and Matrix lines have different oven setups, but the goal is always the same: get that preform hot enough, fast enough. We make sure our lamps match the exact length and connector types of the originals. That means you don’t have to mess around with the lamp holders or spend your afternoon rewiring control panels. You just pull out the burnt-out tube, pop the new one in, wire it up, and you’re back in business. Heat where it actually belongs When you’re running high-speed production, you need a massive amount of heat to hit that glass transition temperature without scorching the base of the bottle. It’s a delicate balance. Our lamps are tuned specifically for the voltage and wattage Sidel machines expect. We use high-purity quartz and special coatings to keep the short-wave radiation focused. The heat goes straight into the plastic, not into the oven walls. One quick tip: if you’re pushing high wattage to speed up your cycles, keep an eye on your ventilation. If the lamp housing gets too hot, it can fry your connectors. Keep your scrap rate low We’re big on “no-loss” installation. To us, that just means the dimensions are right—down to the millimeter. There’s nothing worse than trying to force a tube into a bracket or dealing with a loose contact that flickers. By sticking to the original footprint, the heating stays consistent across every zone. No thin spots in the bottle walls, no weird defects, and way less scrap hitting the floor.
