
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heating Just Right
Here is the problem when you swap out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix machine: the temperature curve loves to shift. If the wattage is off or the light isn’t hitting the preform exactly right, you’re in trouble. You’ll start seeing uneven walls or that annoying pearlescence in your bottles. It’s a headache nobody needs. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to be a mirror image of the originals. It’s all about the thermal footprint. We don’t just check the length and voltage and call it a day. That’s too simple. We actually calibrate the heat density for every single millimeter. Think of it this way: the infrared radiation has to sink into the PET preform at a very specific depth. If the resistance is off by even a few ohms, the lamp won’t pull the right amount of current. Suddenly, your heat-up times are drifting and you’re spending your afternoon tweaking settings instead of running production. The nitty-gritty stuff. We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets the short-wave IR pass through without any struggle. We also obsess over the filament position. If it’s slightly off, you get “cold spots” along the tube, and that ruins the consistency of your blow. And the best part? They’re drop-in replacements. We use standard industrial connectors, so you can just pop them in. No rewiring the oven. No messing around with the lamp holders. Just plug and play. One quick heads-up. High-density IR lamps put out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for the preform, but it means your oven housing gets hot—really hot. Do yourself a favor and check your cooling blowers. Make sure they’re clean and actually moving air. If the airflow is blocked, the lamps will run hotter than they should, and you’ll burn through your filaments way faster than necessary.
