
Getting Your SACMI Rotary Blow Molders Up to Speed
If you’re running SACMI rotary machines, you already know how fast things move. The gap between the preform hitting the oven and the actual blow stage is tiny. There’s no room for error. That’s why we built our infrared lamps to cut out the lag. We want that PET resin to hit its glass transition temperature the second it needs to, not a few seconds too late. The secret is in the punch. To get those temperatures up fast, we focus on the wattage-to-length ratio. By packing high-wattage halogen lamps into a compact size, the infrared radiation hits the preform wall almost instantly. It kills that “cold start” lag. And when you get rid of that lag, you stop seeing those annoying wall thickness irregularities in your finished bottles. Everything just comes out consistent. No fuss, just a swap. We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets the IR light through without fighting it. Plus, the halogen cycle keeps the tungsten filament from burning out too quickly, so your light output stays steady even after thousands of cycles. As for the fit? We use standard R7s or Sk15 bases. We did this on purpose. You shouldn’t have to rewire your entire panel just to upgrade your lamps. You just pop the old ones out, drop these in, and tweak your PID controllers. Simple. A quick word of caution. Here’s the trade-off: faster heat means more stress. When a lamp hits peak temp in a heartbeat, it puts a lot of pressure on the quartz-to-metal seal. If your cooling fans aren’t pulling their weight, that ambient heat can actually eat away at your sockets over time. You have to balance that aggressive heat with a smart airflow strategy, or you’re just asking for a premature burnout. One last tip: check your reflector alignment every 500 hours. You want that heat hitting the preform—not baking your machine frame.
